Prairie Wind German Shorthaired Pointers

Welcome! Thank you for visiting our site. Here you will learn more about us, why we raise shorthairs and Danes, and our dogs. We are located in northwestern Missouri, on a small acreage where we raise our dogs with love, as family members.  Every puppy that comes from our home is raised in our home, handled from birth. We take pride in raising calm puppies who are capable of performing in the field, but know how to settle down in the house as well. We pay special attention to the health of our puppies, because healthy puppies make healthy, long lived adult dogs.     I do things a bit differently than many breeders, because my dogs are so very important to me. (Not that I think other breeders care less about their dogs, not at  all.)  These dogs are part of our family, and the puppies are raised right alongside my own children.  I am right there when the puppies are born, and we handle them frequently every day. They meet our other dogs, kids, and cats so they are well socialized. You are welcome to come visit us, and meet our dogs, see where your puppy was born and raised.    I don't run a kennel and I don't show dogs. I think there is a huge difference between show dogs and kennel dogs, and the dogs I raise.  Our puppies are very calm and have been raised as house dogs. They spend their entire lives around humans. This creates happy, well adjusted dogs who are never aggressive or out of control with hyperness. The GSP's  have strong hunting instincts and a strong will to please their humans.  The Danes tend to think they ARE human and want to do whatever you are doing. Each breed has its benefits and also has its issues. I will do my best to make sure you are aware of these before you take home a puppy. I will do everything I can to get you started out with your new family member the right way with all the info and support that you need.
Once your puppy goes home with you I don't disappear into the fog never to be heard from again. I am always there for you to answer questions and help you in any way that you need. We have a puppy group online, where all of our puppy families can go to share stories and their trials and tribulations as puppy owners and share pictures of their new family member. The reason I have these litters is so that other people can share in the amazing love and companionship that these dogs have to offer. Its not about money, its not about notoriety. They are just awesome dogs and I think more people should get to have one.
